How a CITS licence works
One licence service issues every licence, and each installation holds only what it was granted. The model is deliberately generous when the network is not there, because a licensing problem must never become a business outage.
PID — one per company and product
Generated when the licence is registered and stable for the life of the licence: the same company asking for the same product always receives the same PID. The company name is the one you type at activation - it is a commercial name, not a lookup against your accounting records.
Shape: a five-character product prefix and twelve characters from an alphabet that leaves out 0 1 I O, so a PID can be read out over the phone without confusion. Example: CITSA-8K4M2QW7ZD3P.
Install token — once, and only inside the product
Issued together with the PID, stored inside your installation, and recognised on every check-in. It is never shown in any product screen: you can see the PID, never the token.
- Re-issued only when we rotate it, or when the installation legitimately asks for its own token again after a reinstall or a move.
- Stored only as a hash on our side, so the value cannot be recovered from the licence service.
- If it changes, the previous value stops working immediately.
How a licence reaches a product
- Register. The installation asks for the licence with the product key built into the build and the company name your team typed. It receives the PID and, once, the install token.
- First check-in. The licence period starts here - the trial runs for 365 days from this first contact, not from the purchase date.
- Check-in every 7 days. The installation reports its version and module versions, and receives its current rights and expiry. The answer is signed by us.
- Upgrade. The same authenticated channel offers the next release; nothing is downloaded from a public link.
Licence states
| State | Meaning | Experience |
|---|---|---|
| Trial | Starts at the first check-in, 365 days. | All licensed features. |
| Active | A valid period granted by the vendor. | All licensed features. |
| Buyout | Perpetual licence, no expiry. | All licensed features; no expiry reminders. |
| Expired | The licensed period ended. | Sign-in and the licence page still work; other features closed until renewal. |
| Suspended | Explicitly suspended by the vendor - a commercial decision, not a date. | Takes effect at the next check-in; sign-in only. |
Renewals and add-on changes are applied by us and take effect at the next check-in.
Designed for offline tolerance
Built-in allowance
Each product carries an allowance inside the build. With no licence service reachable at all, it keeps working until that date.
Renewals extend
A renewal always extends what you hold. A failed or unreachable check-in never shortens it.
Transport failures change nothing
If the service cannot be reached, the product keeps its state and tries again later.
Only a deliberate action bites
A suspension or a corrected grant - signed by us and visible on the licence page - is the only thing that can take effect earlier than your date.
Tamper evidence
Licence answers are digitally signed by us (RSA-SHA256) and carry the exact grant: PID, expiry, suspended flag, buyout flag and features.
- The AutoCount bridge verifies that signature before trusting the state. A state that does not verify, or that belongs to a different PID, is rejected and the bridge falls back to its built-in allowance.
- The console's rights are likewise issued only by the licence service - the product never grants itself a right we did not issue.
- The practical consequence: rights can only be changed by us. A locally edited licence file cannot extend anything - it can only cost the installation its licence time.
What is reported
- PID and the company name you supplied
- Product, version and installed modules
- Check-in time and source IP
- Billing profile, only if you submit it
- Accounting data of any kind
- Chat content or media
- Email content
- Passwords or accounting credentials
Rights per product
Rights are granted per feature, and add-ons are switched on per licence - a product shows nothing for an add-on that has not been granted. Prices exclude SST (8%).

Licensing questions
We are moving to a new server. Does the licence move?
Yes. The installation can request its own token again at activation - the product key and the company name are the proof. The PID and its rights stay the same.
Can we change the licence name later?
The name given at registration is the licence name, and the PID is built from it. If it was a typo or the entity changed, contact us and the licence is reissued with a new PID.
How many installations does one licence cover?
One licence is one company and one product. Additional sites or additional products - including add-on modules - are separate licences, which keeps entitlements and support scope unambiguous.
What if we block the licence service?
You can, but it only hurts you: with no check-ins the product cannot receive renewals, so it runs on its built-in allowance and then drops to sign-in only.
